Touch Screen Monitors

TOUCH SCREEN MONITORS.

What is a Touch Screen Monitor ?

A Touch Screen Monitor is just that, a monitor whose screen you touch to operate.
Rather than use a mouse to operate the program on screen, you use your finger to touch.
Touch screen monitors are found in many places these days, where a person needs to interact or operate a computer program, or software, or operate some equipment with a monitor as the front end control such as  ATM’s,  Security applications, Industrial machinery, Advertising Displays to name but a few.
Rather than use a conventional mouse which needs to be on a flat surface and usually has a wire connected which can get tangled or caught up, a touch screen enables a direct user interface.
This enables the user to touch the area of the screen they want to move to, activate, or to carry out a function shown on the screen.
The control operation could not be simpler.
Much the same as touch pad or a mouse, rather than drag your mouse around until you are at the point on the screen you wish to click on, with a touch screen monitor you simply touch the location you wish to click on, it’s as simple as that.
To perform a double click operation, you just touch it twice.
To drag and drop, just touch the first item and use your finger to drag the item where you want it then release it.

The Technology
There are various technologies employed in the manufacturing of touch screen monitors, however there are only two main types we use, which are very reliable and cost effective.
They are “Resistive” and “Capacitive” both of which in general terms have an electrical current or signal passing through a film grid.
Touching the screen will cause a change in the current or signal at this location, the software or touch screen controller will reference the X / Y axis of this location and will determine and show the position of the touch at this point on the screen.

Connecting
Touch screen monitors come with all the usual connections as used with a conventional LCD monitor, VGA, Power etc… but will also have an extra lead for the touch screen function. This will have either a “D Type” RS232 Serial Com plug or as is more common these days a USB connector on the end of it, depending on the requirements of your PC.

Software Driver
The touch screen monitors come with the software as part of the package, this is used to update the PC control system you have in operation. Updates are available on line as and when available.
